ORLANDO, Fla. - The UCF women's basketball team hosts Atlantic Sun rival Stetson at the UCF Arena on Saturday at 2 p.m., looking to make it seven in a row against the Hatters. The Golden Knights enter the contest 11-7 on the season and 9-2 in the A-Sun, while the Hatters are 8-9 on the season and 5-5 in the conference.
Junior Celeste Hudson leads UCF in points with 11.5 per game, while junior Shelby Weber leads the team in rebounds with 6.7 per outing. In addition to Hudson, senior Ali Roberts and sophomore Francine Houston are also scoring in double-digits with 11.0 and 10.4 points per game, respectively. Sophomore Lashaunda Slade leads the Golden Knights in assists with 3.89 per game, while Weber also leads the team in blocks with 2.22 per game.
UCF is currently leading the Atlantic Sun with a 9-2 (.818) mark in conference play, while Lipscomb is second with a 7-4 (.636) mark. In the A-Sun statistics, the Golden Knights rank first in scoring defense (56.3 per game), blocked shots (5.78 per game), field goal percentage (35.9%) and scoring margin (+3.6), while they are second in rebounding margin (+3.9).
Individually, Hudson ranks 16th in scoring, while Roberts is 18th and Houston is 22nd. Slade is fourth in assists among A-Sun players, while Hudson is ninth with 3.0 per game. Roberts is also third in the conference in field goal percentage with .510. Hudson ranks third among A-Sun players in steals with 2.41 per game. Ranked second and third in the blocked shots department are Weber and Roberts, while Takira Allen is 13th. Houston and Hudson rank ninth and 11th in 3-point field goals made, respectively.
Last time out the Golden Knights defeated Florida Atlantic, 61-47. UCF had three players in double-digits with Roberts leading the way with 17. Weber led the Black and Gold in rebounds with 10, while Roberts also led the team in blocks with three. Slade led UCF in assists with six, while Hudson led the squad in steals with six.
Kristy Brown leads the way for Stetson with 15.6 points per game, while Nefertiti Walker is netting 13.5 points per game. Brown also leads the way for the Hatters in rebounds with 10.9 per game. Kim Manning leads Stetson in assists with 3.24 per game, while Joann Smith has 2.29 per game. Brown also leads the team in blocks with 0.76 per game.
Stetson is tied for fifth in the Atlantic Sun standings behind UCF, Lipscomb, Georgia State and Florida Atlantic. In the A-Sun statistics, the Hatters rank second in assists (13.82 per game), third in offensive rebounds (15.94 per game), fourth in scoring offense (62.5 per game) and free throw percentage (67.9%) and fifth in rebounding margin (+1.3) and three-point field goal percentage (31.4%).
Individually, Brown ranks second in scoring, while Walker is sixth. Janene Maclin ranks sixth in field goal percentage (48.6%), while Brown is seventh. Brown is also 10th in free throw percentage (69.5%) and first in rebounding. Manning is fifth in the A-Sun in assists and seventh in steals.
Last time out, Stetson defeated Jacksonville, 68-59. Brown recorded a double-double by netting 22 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Walker was in double digits with Brown after netting 21 points of her own.
This will be the 57th time that UCF and Stetson have met on the basketball court with the Golden Knights leading the series 31-25. UCF and Stetson last played on January 27, 2005 at Edmunds Center in DeLand, Fla. with the Black and Gold defeating the Hatters, 65-45.
Fans bringing a canned food item to the game will be admitted free of charge. All donations will be used to help in the relief of the Tsunami victims. Tickets are still available for the February 5th game. Adults are $5. Youth age 17 and under and seniors age 55 and older are $3.
