ORLANDO - The UCF men's tennis team opens its 2005 home schedule on Friday, Feb. 4, hosting local foe Rollins at 2 p.m. at the UCF Tennis Complex. Admission to the match is free.
The Golden Knights (0-3) will be seeking their first victory of the spring campaign after opening the season against three ranked opponents. UCF fell to No. 72 UAB, 4-0, on Jan. 29 in its last match.
Senior Joel Allen (Miami, Fla./Dade CC) has played well recently at the No. 3 spot. Against No. 37 Alabama on Jan. 28, he defeated Eric Molnar (2-6, 7-6, 6-4).
Allen has also fared well in doubles action, joining senior Simon Jaeger (Essen, Germany/Essen-Kettwig Gymnasium) at No. 1. The pair had a solid showing against No. 3 Florida on Jan. 24, topping Hamid Mirzadeh and Chris Brandi, 9-7.
The Tars will be playing their first match of the season. Their contest against Embry-Riddle, slated for Tuesday, Feb. 2, was rained out.
A year ago, Rollins won the Sunshine State Conference crown and advanced to the NCAA Division II semifinals. The team was ranked No. 4 nationally in the final 2004 Fall poll.
After facing Rollins, the Golden Knights return to the court on Sunday, Feb.6, playing Barry in Winter Park, Fla. at 1 p.m.
