ORLANDO, Fla. - UCF travels to Boca Raton to take on Florida Atlantic on Feb. 2 at 7 p.m. The Golden Knights enter the contest 10-7 on the season and 8-2 in the Atlantic Sun, while the Owls are 8-9 on the season and 6-4 in the conference.
Junior Celeste Hudson leads UCF in points with 11.3 per game, while junior Shelby Weber leads the team in rebounds with 6.5 per outing. In addition to Hudson, senior Ali Roberts and sophomore Francine Houston are also scoring in the double-digits with 10.6 and 10.4 points per game. Sophomore Lashaunda Slade leads the Golden Knights in assists with 64, while Weber also leads the team in blocks with 38.
UCF is currently ranked first in the Atlantic Sun with an 8-2 (.800) mark in conference play, while Lipscomb is a close second with a 7-3 (.700) mark. In the A-Sun statistics, the Golden Knights rank first in scoring defense (56.8 per game), blocked shots (5.65 per game) and scoring margin (+3.0) while they are second in defensive rebounds (26.71 per game) and rebounding margin (+3.6) and third in rebounding defense (36.9 per game).
Individually, Hudson ranks 16th in scoring with 11.3 per game, while Roberts is 20th and Houston is 21st. Slade is fourth in assists among A-Sun players, while Hudson is 11th with 2.94 per game. Roberts is also third in the conference in field goal percentage with .507. Hudson ranks fifth among A-Sun players in steals with 2.27 per game. Ranked second and third in the blocked shots department are Weber and Roberts, while Takira Allen is 12th. Houston and Hudson rank ninth and 10th in three-point field goals made.
Nationally, Roberts ranks 29th in blocks per game, while the Golden Knights are ranked 15th overall.
Last time out, the Golden Knights were defeated by Jacksonville, 59-67. UCF had three players in double-digits with Houston and Slade leading at 13 apiece. Weber led the Black and Gold in rebounds with 13 and blocks with seven. Slade also led the squad in steals with five.
Shontavia Williams leads the way for Florida Atlantic with 14.9 points per game, while Jackie Brown is netting 11.3 points per game. Jackie Brown is also in the double-digits for FAU with 11.3 points per game. Williams and DeKesh Frazier lead FAU in rebounds with 6.5 boards per game. Shuteamia Brayboy leads the Lady Owls in assists with 36 on the season, while Frazier is also leading the team in blocks with 14.
Florida Atlantic is third in the Atlantic Sun standings behind UCF and Lipscomb. In the A-Sun statistics, the Lady Owls rank first in scoring offense (66.1 per game) and steals (10.82 per game), third in free throw percentage (.685) and 3-point field goals made (6.00 per game) and fourth in offensive rebounds (15.59 per game).
Individually, Williams ranks fifth in scoring with 14.9 points per game, while Brown is tied for 17th and Missy Glaser is 30th. Glaser, Williams and Brown hold down the seventh, eighth and ninth positions for free throw percentage. Frazier and Williams at 19th and 20th in the rebounding department, while Brown and Williams are ninth and 14th in steals. Cristal Ranfolph ranks fifth in three-point field goal percentage, while Frazier is ninth in blocked shots.
Last time out, Florida Atlantic defeated Stetson, 67-66. Williams led the Lady Owls with 18 points, followed closely by Glaser, who had 17. Williams also led FAU in rebounds with nine, while Brown had eight. Callie Piper led the squad in steals with three.
This will be the 26th time that UCF and FAU have met on the basketball court with the Golden Knights leading the series 19-6. UCF and Florida Atlantic last played on January 3, 2005 at UCF Arena in Orlando with the Black and Gold defeating the Lady Owls, 49-41.
The Golden Knights return home on Saturday, February 5 when they host Stetson at 2 p.m. Fans bringing a canned food item to the game will be admitted free of charge. All donations will be used to help in the relief of the Tsunami victims.
Tickets are still available for the February 5th game. Adults are $5. Youth age 17 and under and seniors age 55 and older are $3.
