ORLANDO, Fla. - The UCF women's basketball team travels to Jacksonville, Fla.to take on the Dolphins on Saturday, January 29 at 5 p.m. in Swisher Gymnasium. The Golden Knights enter Saturday's game 10-6 on the season and 8-1 in the Atlantic Sun with their only loss coming against Lipscomb, while the Dolphins come in with a 3-12 mark on the season and are still looking for their first win in the A-Sun.
Junior Celeste Hudson, who is averaging 11.7 points per game, leads UCF. Senior Ali Roberts is second on the team in points with 10.7, while sophomore Francine Houston is third with 10.3. Hudson is also leading the Black and Gold in rebounds with 6.3 boards per outing, while junior Shelby Weber is a close second in the boards department with 6.1 per game. Sophomore Lashaunda Slade leads in assists with 63.
UCF is currently ranked first in the Atlantic Sun with an 8-1 mark in conference play, while Lipscomb is a close second with a 7-2 mark. In the A-Sun statistics, the Golden Knights rank first in scoring defense (56.2 per game), blocked shots (5.56 per game), scoring margin (+3.7), defensive rebounds (27.19 per game) and field goal percent defense (.361), second in rebounding defense (36.7 per game) and rebounding margin (+3.9) and third in three-point field goal percent defense (.301), assists (13.31 per game) and rebounding offense (40.6 per game).
Individually, Hudson ranks 13th in scoring with 11.7 per game, while Roberts is 18th and Houston is 21st. Slade is fourth in assists among the A-Sun, while Hudson is seventh. Roberts is also third in the conference in field goal percentage with .504. Hudson ranks third among A-Sun players in steals with 2.27 per game. Ranked second and third in the blocked shots department are Roberts and Weber, while Takira Allen is 12th with 0.80 per game.
Nationally, Roberts ranks 29th in blocks per game, while the Golden Knights are ranked 15th.
Last time out, the Golden Knights defeated Stetson, 65-45. UCF had two players in double-digits and was led by Hudson who had 21. Houston led the Black and Gold in rebounds with 12, while also netting 10 points. Weber led the squad in steals with four.
Sheena Carpenter, who is averaging 11.5 points per game, leads Jacksonville. Yolisha Jackson is second on the squad in points with 11.3 but is out indefinitely with a knee injury. Nakina Alford is third for the Dolphins in points with 11.2 per outing, while Rebecca Montz rounds out the players in double-digits with 10.3. Jackson was also leading Jacksonville in rebounds before the injury with 6.3 boards per game. Ashley Stinson leads the Dolphins among active players in the rebound department with 5.9 boards per outing. Montz is leading the squad in assists with 46 and steals with 26.
Jacksonville is at the bottom of the Atlantic Sun standings. In the A-Sun statistics, the Dolphins rank first in free throw percentage (.725), second in three-point field goal percentage (.364) and offensive rebounds (16.27 per game) and fourth in three-point field goals made (5.07 per game).
Individually, Carpenter ranks 14th in scoring with 11.5, while Alford is 16th, Montz is 20th and Stinson is 27th. Carpenter is also sixth in free throw percentage with .732, while Stinson is 13th with .679. Stinson is also ranked 19th in rebounding with 5.9 boards per game. In assists, Montz is tied with UCF's Hudson in seventh place with 3.07 per game while, Carpenter holds down the 10th place with 2.93 per outing.
Last time out, Jacksonville was defeated by Florida Atlantic, 68-54. Montz, who had 12 points followed by Carpenter and Talia Johnson who each had 10 points, led the Dolphins. Johnson and Stinson led the squad in rebounds with seven. Stinson also led Jacksonville in steals with five.
This will be the 11th meeting between UCF and Jacksonville with the Golden Knights leading the series 6-4. The last time that the Knights and the Dolphins met was on March 4, 2004 with the Black and Gold defeating Jacksonville, 79-58.
The Golden Knights return home on Saturday, February 5 when they host Stetson at 2 p.m. Fans bringing a canned food item to the game will be admitted for free. All donations will be used to help in the relief of the Tsunami victims. Tickets are still available for the February 5th game. Adults are $5. Youth age 17 and under and seniors age 55 and older are $3. Children under five and UCF students with a valid UCF student I.D. are admitted free.
