ORLANDO - The UCF men's basketball team returns home to the UCF Arena Saturday for a 7 p.m. contest vs. the Bruins of Belmont. The Golden Knights played Belmont just six days earlier, losing 67-52 in Nashville.
The Golden Knights (12-7, 5-6 A-Sun) have lost three straight games entering Saturday's contest. UCF has been a streaky team this season, owning win streaks of four games twice and a three-game win streak along with the team's current three-game losing skid.
Series Notes
UCF leads the all-time series 4-3 vs. Belmont, including a 2-1 advantage at the UCF Arena. The Golden Knights played Belmont three times last season, including a 64-62 win in the A-Sun Semifinals at the Curb Center in Nashville.
In UCF's 67-52 loss at Belmont last Sunday, the Golden Knights were held to a season-low 52 points. It marked only the second time in seven meetings vs. the Bruins that UCF failed to score at least 60 points. Closing the Season on a Good Note
UCF owns a record of 23-14 (.621) over the final stretch of the season since the 2001-02 campaign. From January 28 until the final game of the season over the last three seasons, the Golden Knights have ended the year playing their best basketball.
Last season, UCF closed the year out on a 9-3 run during the month of February and March, including the A-Sun Tournament Championship and an appearance in the NCAA Championships.
Triple Your Pleasure
Kinglsey Edwards recorded the first triple-double for UCF since the 2002-03 season with 10 points, 10 rebounds and 14 assists vs. Troy on Jan. 16 at the UCF Arena. Dexter Lyons scored 14 points, pulled down 13 rebounds and dished out 10 assists on January 11, 2003 against, ironically, Troy.
The Assist King
Kingsley Edwards tied a school record with 14 assists in the win over Troy. Edwards tied Cory Perry in the UCF annals for single-game assists. Perry dished out 14 assists in a 84-57 victory over Florida Atlantic on Feb. 20, 1999 at the UCF Arena.
Remarkable Comeback Falls Just Short
UCF trailed Lipscomb 58-39 with 3:33 remaining Tuesday in Nashville before closing out the game on a 22-6 run to lose 64-63 to the Bison.
The Golden Knights used a barrage of three pointers and forced turnovers to force the game into the final seconds at Lipscomb.
Senior guard Kingsley Edwards had a chance to win the game at the buzzer, but his jump shot missed the mark.
