ORLANDO, Fla. -The UCF women's basketball team travels to DeLand, Fla. to take on Stetson on Thursday, January 27 at 7:00 p.m. in the Edmunds Center. The Golden Knights enter Thursday's game 9-6 on the season and 7-1 in the Atlantic Sun after defeating Georgia State, Mercer, Gardner-Webb, Campbell, Troy and Florida Atlantic, while the Hatters will come in with a 7-7 mark on the season and 4-3 in the A-Sun after defeating Lipscomb, Troy, Mercer and Georgia State.
Senior Ali Roberts and junior Celeste Hudson, who are both averaging 11.0 points per game, lead UCF. In addition to Roberts and Hudson, sophomore Francine Houston is also averaging double-digits with 10.4 points per game. Hudson is also leading the Black and Gold in rebounds with 6.3 boards per outing. Junior Shelby Weber is a close second in the boards department with 6.1 per game. Sophomore Lashaunda Slade leads in assists with 60.
UCF is currently ranked first in the Atlantic Sun standings. In the A-Sun statistics, the Golden Knights rank first in scoring defense (56.9 per game), blocked shots (5.60 per game), scoring margin (+2.6) and field goal percent defense (.364) and third in rebounding defense (37.0 per game), three-point field goal percent defense (.301), assists (13.47 per game), defensive rebounds (26.73 per game) and rebounding margin (+3.2).
Roberts and Hudson rank 17th among A-Sun players in scoring with 11.0 points per game, while Houston is 19th with 10.4 points per game. Slade is fourth in the A-Sun with 4.00 assists per game, while Hudson is 10th with 2.93 per game. Hudson is also ranked third in the conference in steals with 2.36 per game. In the blocked shots category, Roberts is ranked second with 2.27 per game, while Weber is fifth with 1.80 and senior Takira Allen is 11th with 0.79.
Last time out, the Golden Knights defeated Georgia State, 66-54. UCF had four players in double-digits led by Hudson who had18. Allen led the squad in rebounds with nine boards. LaShay King and Shayla Smith each had three assists, while Roberts and Weber had two blocks each. Hudson and Houston led the Black and Gold in steals with three.
Kristy Brown, who is averaging 15.3 points per game and 10.2 rebounds per game, leads Stetson. Kim Manning is leading the Hatters in assists with 42.
Stetson is ranked fourth in the Atlantic Sun behind UCF, Lipscomb and Campbell. In the A-Sun statistics, the Hatters rank fourth in rebounding margin (+2.4), fifth in blocked shots (3.36 per game), assists (13.36 per game) and three-point field goal percent defense (.326), seventh in rebounding defense (39.6 per game) and defensive rebounds (25.64 per game), ninth in field goal percent defense (.416) and 10th in scoring defense (69.9 per game) and scoring margin (-6.7).
Individually, Brown ranks fourth in scoring with 15.3 points per game, while Nefertiti Walker is ninth with 12.8. Manning is ninth in the A-Sun is assists with 3.00 per game and eighth in steals with 1.86 per game. Brown is also ranked 13 in blocked shots with 0.71 per game, while Dee Mathene and Janene Maclin are both ranked 15th in blocked shots with 0.50 per game.
Last time out, Stetson defeated Lipscomb, 63-61, in Nashville, Tenn. Walker who had 20 points led the Hatters. Maclin led the team in rebounds with nine, while also scoring 15 points.
This will be the 56th meeting between the UCF and Stetson with the Golden Knights leading the series 30-25. The last time that the Knights and the Hatters met was on March 12, 2004 in the second round of the A-Sun Tournament with the Black and Gold defeating Stetson, 64-52.
UCF will return home on Saturday, February 5 when they host Stetson at 2:00 p.m. If you bring a canned food item to the game, you will be admitted for free. All donations will be used to help in the relief of the Tsunami victims. Tickets are still available for the February 5th game. Adults are $5. Youth age 17 and under and seniors age 55 and older are $3. Children under five and UCF students with a valid UCF student I.D. are admitted free.
