ORLANDO, Fla. - The 2005 ESPN.com/USA Softball preseason Top 25 poll was released and UCF will be taking on eight of the top 25 teams in 2005. The Golden Knights will also be playing two teams who received honorable mention status.
The Black and Gold will take on No. 13 Tennessee in the Clearwater Invitational on February 4 and DePaul, who has honorable mention status, on February 5. Also in the Clearwater Invitational, will be Florida and Louisville, each receiving votes in the top 25.
The Golden Knights will then travel to Las Vegas, Nevada to play No. 8 LSU, No. 12 Michigan and No. 9 Washington in the Louisville Slugger Desert Classic February 11-13.
On March 2, UCF will host Michigan in a two-game series at the UCF Softball Field. Ten days later, the Black and Gold will travel to Tampa, Fla. to take on No. 18 Baylor in the Speedline Tournament.
UCF will host No. 21 Georgia Tech on March 19 in one of the UCF tournaments. Florida Atlantic, who received votes in the top 25, will make the trip to Orlando on March 29.
April 13, UCF travels to Tallahassee, Fla. where they will play No. 11 Florida State. On April 20, the Golden Knights will travel back to Tampa to take on No. 22 USF.
UCF is gearing up for their first contest of the season Saturday in Daytona Beach, Fla. against Bethune-Cookman at 1:00 p.m. The Knights first home game will be against Longwood University on Friday, February 18. Admission to all UCF softball games is free.
