Jan. 26, 2005

ORLANDO - UCF head baseball coach Jay Bergman announced Wednesday that sophomore right-handed pitcher Brett Bordwine will miss the entire season due to an ankle injury. Bordwine injured his ankle at practice Tuesday and is the second UCF pitcher lost to injury for the 2005 season.

Bordwine was showing promise in preseason camp and was one of the favorites to become UCF's closer out of the bullpen. The right-hander was 1-1 with a 6.48 ERA in nine appearances as a freshman in 2004.

Fellow sophomore Taylor Meier (Altamonte Springs, Fla./Orangewood Christian) is also out for the season with an arm injury.

The Golden Knights were also ranked 25th in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association preseason top 25 poll, released Wednesday. The Golden Knights are tabbed the nation's 24th ranked team in Collegiate Baseball's preseason top 40 and No. 37 in Baseball America's preseason rankings. UCF is 34th in the Sports Weekly/ESPN Preseason Coaches poll to round out the rankings.

UCF opens the season Saturday, February 5 at 1 p.m. vs. Florida International. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. from Jay Bergman Field.

Saturday, January 29, fans have an opportunity to purchase season tickets and select-a-seat for the season from 2-4 p.m. at Jay Bergman Field. For the first time ever, fans can choose their own seat for the entire season with the purchase of season tickets.
