ORLANDO - UCF head baseball coach Jay Bergman announced Wednesday that sophomore pitcher Taylor Meier will miss the entire season due to an arm injury.
Meier, who was a preseason all-conference selection by the A-Sun coaches and Baseball America, finished 6-3 with a 2.55 ERA in 2004 as UCF's No. 4 starter. Meier garnered Freshman All-America honors by Collegiate Baseball following the 2004 campaign.
The 6-6 right-hander pitched 74 innings with 56 strikeouts. He held opponents to a .223 batting average.
Meier ranked third on the team in wins, innings pitched and strikeouts behind UCF's All-America duo of Matt Fox and Kyle Bono last season. With Fox and Bono now in the professional ranks, the loss of Meier for the year has UCF without its top three pitchers from a year ago.
The trio combined to go 28-7 with a 2.05 ERA and 288 strikeouts in 284 innings of work in 2004.
