The UCF women's basketball team will return to action on Monday, January 3 when they host conference rival Florida Atlantic. The Golden Knights have not played a game since the 2004 UCF Holiday Classic on December 19, a 14-day layoff. UCF will enter the game with a 3-6 overall record and 1-1 mark in the Atlantic Sun while FAU will come in with a 2-7 overall record and 0-2 mark in conference play.
The Knights are led by junior Celeste Hudson who is averaging 10.1 points per game and 5.9 rebounds per game. Sophomore Francine Houston is a close second to Hudson with 9.9 points per game. Junior Shelby Weber leads the Black and Gold in rebounds with 6.9 per game.
Last time out, the Knights defeated Colgate on day one of the 2004 Holiday Classic and then fell to Florida International on day two. Weber had a career game against Colgate, recording her first career double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds and blocked a career-high eight shots The eight blocks were good enough to place Weber second for blocks in a game. She surpassed current teammate Ali Roberts who was listed second and third for six and seven blocks in a game. Meg Schuler set the record with 11 blocks in 1982 against Livingston.
The Golden Knights also had four other players in double-digit points against Colgate. Roberts scored 18 to lead the team while Weber and Hudson each had 13 and Houston and Claudia Johnson had 11 apiece. Hudson tied her career high in assists with seven.
Against Florida International, Jeralynn Campbell led UCF with 11 points while playing in eight minutes. Campbell was 4-for-5 from the field and 3-for-4 from the free throw line.
The Lady Owls are lead by Shontavia Williams who is averaging 14.0 points per game and 4.7 rebounds per game. DeKesh Frazier leads FAU with 6.3 rebounds per game.
In their last outing, FAU defeated Bethune-Cookman College 84-75. Sharia Young led the Lady Owls with 19 points followed closely by Jackie Brown who netted 18 points. Frazier led FAU in rebounds with eight.
Tickets are still available for the game. Adults are $5. Youth age 17 and under and seniors age 55 and older pay $3. Children under five and UCF students with a valid UCF student I.D. are admitted free. Tickets for all Golden Knights women's basketball games are available at the door and by calling (407) UCF-GOLD.
