Two UCF Women's Soccer Players Named to the NSCAA/adidas 2004 South Region Scholar Athlete All-America First Team

ORLANDO, Fla. - Senior Allison Blagriff and junior Courtney Baines were honored for their achievements in the classroom by being named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America/adidas 2004 South Region Scholar Athlete All-America First Team. This is Blagriff's second year in a row receiving this honor.

Blagriff has maintained her GPA while majoring in General Business and starting for the women's soccer team. She has made the honor roll six times, Dean's List twice and has been a member of the Atlantic Sun All-Academic Team three times. Blagriff is also a Who's Who among UCF Top 100-Athletes.

Baines has maintained a high GPA while majoring in exceptional education and starting for the women's soccer team. She has made the honor roll and Dean's List four times along with being named to the A-Sun All-Academic Team twice. Baines was also a member of the 2004 Athletic Director's Court of Honor and in 2003 President's Honor Roll, Golden Knight Roundtable for Scholarship, National Society of Collegiate Scholars and CoSIDA District III All-America Academic Team.

On the soccer field, Blagriff and Baines played a key role in the success of the 2004 women's soccer team which included an appearance in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament, the sixth time in school history. Blagriff scored nine goals and had four assists for a total of 22 points while starting in all 23 matches. Baines scored five goals and had 10 assists for a total of 20 points while also starting in all 23 matches.

Blagriff and Baines were both honored by making the A-Sun All-Conference First Team with Baines being named A-Sun Defensive Player of the Year as well. Blagriff was also named to the NSCAA Southeast Region Third Team. Baines was honored during the season by being named A-Sun and soccerFLA.com Player of the Week for the week of October 25.

The 2004 women's soccer team finished the season with a 17-4-2 overall record and an 8-2-0 conference record. The Knights were a perfect 9-0 against teams from the state of Florida including wins at #12 Florida State and #10 Florida. UCF will return to action in the Fall of 2005 as a member of Conference USA.
