CORAL GABLES, Fla. - Miami's Tamara James netted 29 points to lead the Hurricanes to a 69-50 victory over UCF. The Knights fell to 2-5 on the season while Miami improved to 4-5.
Senior Takira Allen broke into the record books with 13:09 left in the game after grabbing her 500th career rebound. Allen and junior Celeste Hudson led the Knights with 10 points each while Allen grabbed nine total boards and Hudson grabbed eight.
Senior Ali Roberts blocked a game high four shots while scoring nine points and grabbing three boards. Roberts is only 14 boards away from 500 career rebounds herself.
In the first half of play, the lead changed nine times with the score tied six times before Miami jumped out to an eight point lead, their largest of the half, with three seconds left. The Knights and Hurricanes went into the break with Miami up 32-24.
James had gone 5-for-10 from the field, 1-for-3 from the arc and 5-for-5 from the charity line while also grabbing seven boards for the Hurricanes in the first half. For the Knights, Allen had scored eight points and grabbed five rebounds with one steal in the first 20 minutes of play.
On the night, James was 10-for-17 on field goals, 2-for-5 on three-point field goals and 7-for-9 on free throws while grabbing nine boards with four assists and three steals.
The Knights will return home to host the 2004 Christmas Classic December 18-19. UCF will play Colgate at 1 p.m. on the 18th and then Marshall and FIU will play at 3 p.m. On the 19th, Marshall and Colgate will play at 1 p.m. and UCF will play FIU at 3 p.m. Tickets are still available. Adults are $5. Youth age 17 and under and seniors age 55 and older pay $3. Children under five and UCF students with a valid UCF student I.D. are admitted free.
