The UCF women's basketball team will travel to Coral Gables, Fla. to play in-state rival Miami on Monday, December 13 in The Convocation Center at 7 p.m. The Golden Knights are 2-4 on the season and 1-1 in the Atlantic Sun with victories over UNLV and Belmont while the Hurricanes are 3-5 on the season with victories over Gardner-Webb, TCU and Maryland Eastern Shore.

The Knights are led by sophomore Francine Houston who is averaging 11.8 points per game and is currently ranked 13th among A-Sun players in scoring. Houston is shooting .436 (24-55) from the field, .448 (13-29) from behind the arc and .769 (10-13) from the charity line.

Junior Shelby Weber is leading the Knights in rebounds with 5.7 per game and is currently ranked 20th among A-Sun players in rebounds per game. Weber is also shooting a perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line.

Sophomore Lashaunda Slade paces the Knights in assists with 23 while also ranking third among A-Sun players with 3.83 per game.

As a team, UCF is currently ranked first in scoring defense (57.5 per game), third in scoring margin (-1.0) and second in field goal percentage defense (.349) and rebounding defense (39.0 per game).

Tamara James leads the Atlantic Coast Conference averaging 21.0 points per game. James is shooting .465 (67-144) from the field, .364 (12-33) from behind the arc and .880 (22-25) from the charity line. She also leads the Hurricanes and ranks first in the league in rebounds with 7.1 per game.

As a team, Miami is averaging 61.6 points per game while giving up 68.2. In the ACC standings, the Hurricanes rank second in free throw percentage (.728) and fifth in assists (15.38 per game). Yalonda McCormick ranks first among ACC players in assists with 5.75 per game.

This will be the 11th time that UCF and Miami have met on the basketball court. The Hurricanes led the series 7-3. The last time that UCF and Miami met was on February 10, 1990 with Miami winning 96-74.

The Knights will return home to host the 2004 Christmas Classic December 18-19. UCF will play Colgate at 1 p.m. on the 18th and then Marshall and FIU will play at 3 p.m. On the 19th, Marshall and Colgate will play at 1 p.m. and UCF will play FIU at 3 p.m. Tickets are still available. Adults are $5. Youth age 17 and under and seniors age 55 and older pay $3. Children under five and UCF students with a valid UCF student I.D. are admitted free.
