ORLANDO - UCF senior Adam Holden was named Atlantic Sun Defensive Player of the Week for men's soccer, the league office announced on Monday.
Holden, who walked onto the team in 2003, scored the game-winning goal in a 1-0 shutout at Jacksonville on Nov. 4. The win gave UCF a share of its second consecutive regular season conference championship. Holden then earned the sixth start of his career in the regular season finale as the Golden Knights limited Florida International to four shots on goal in a 3-0 loss on Sunday.
Holden has played in 11 matches during his two-year career despite suffering a season-ending injury during 2003. With his hard work and determination, he cut the prescribed eight-month rehabilitation period in half and has played in eight games this year.
Holden and the Golden Knights (8-6-2, 7-2 A-Sun) earned the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament and will take on the winner of the Belmont/Georgia State game on Friday at 4 p.m.
