TALLAHASSEE - The UCF women's tennis team won three matches in the final day of the Lady Seminole Classic on Sunday, while freshman standout Anna Yakimchenkova took second in the Flight Five singles competition.
Yakimchenkova advanced to the finals of her flight, but lost to N. Tirapelli of Florida State, 6-2, 6-1 in the championship match. She and partner sophomore Megan Rosario-Hunter were undefeated in Flight Three doubles, going 3-0 on the weekend as did the duo of freshman Becky Gordon and senior Ola Luczak.
Meanwhile, in Flight Three singles, Luczak defeated E. Van London of Georgia Tech by a score of 6-1, 6-1 to take fifth place. Gordon also stayed undefeated in Flight Six singles action with a 6-1,6-0 win over Bethune-Cookman's Shaunda Gaiter.
Junior Pamela Fernandez earned third place honors with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Stetson's M. Miladinovic in Flight Two singles, and freshman Jennifer Carati was fifth in Flight Four singles after recording a 6-1, 6-2 victory over M. Levin of Stetson.
The Golden Knights begin their spring season on Jan. 27 against Florida.
