Tampa - The USF women's tennis team defeated UCF in the final day of the hurricane-shortened USF Invitational Tournament on Saturday. Team scores in the mock dual tournament will not be counted toward regular-season records.
After the Bulls swept all three doubles matches, the Golden Knights rebounded taking three of the six singles matches and nearly came away with a fourth thanks to a hard fought match at No. 3 singles. Junior co-captain Pamela Fernandez went to the tiebreaker with Liz Cruz, who got the victory with a 6-7 (6), 6-2 (10-8) score.
Senior Kristina Lohomos earned a 6-4, 6-3 win over Marie Andrade at No. 2 singles, while classmate Ola Luczak defeated Fabiana Taverna by a score of 2-6, 7-5 (10-3). Sophomore Megan Rosario-Hunter was the other UCF win in singles with a 7-5, 0-6 (11-9) win over Patricia Kolendo.
Due to the threat of Hurricane Jeanne, the last day of the USF Invitational was cancelled.
