AUSTIN, Texas - UCF's LesSundra Ford will have her chance to compete for the national title in the women's high jump at the 2004 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Friday night.
Preliminaries for the high jump were scheduled for 8 p.m. (ET) on Wednesday night, but inclement afternoon weather forced officials to postpone many of the events. According to an Associated Press report, fans and participants were forced to evacuate Mike A. Meyers Stadium on three separate occasions due to lightning and heavy rains in the area.
When the championship schedule was revised, officials decided to scratch the prelims in the women's high jump and instead run just the event finals on Friday at 8:30 p.m. (ET).
Ford was ranked in a tie for 18th in the field of 29 athletes with her season-best mark and school record of 5-feet, 11.25 inches. She is the first person in the history of the Golden Knights' program to earn a berth to the NCAA Championships.
