GAINESVILLE - Members of the UCF women's track and field team fell short of their goal of qualifying for the NCAA Championships on the first day of the NCAA East Regional at Florida's Percy Beard Track Complex.

In Friday's opening event - the hammer throw, sophomore Rian Thomas earned a mark of 174-feet, two inches to finish 22nd of 32 athletes, while sophomore Tiffany Roebuck fouled in all three attempts.

Freshman Katie Fowke also didn't register a height in the pole fault and classmate Karen Kozub ran her 800-meter preliminary heat in 2:15.82, missing the finals.

The Golden Knights return to competition on Saturday for the high jump, triple jump and steeplechase.
