ORLANDO, Fla. - UCF Women's Basketball to Host Southern Miss in Home Opener
ORLANDO, Fla.-The UCF women's basketball team will host Southern Miss in the 2004-05 season home opener. The Golden Knights (1-1, 0-0 Atlantic Sun) return home after playing UNLV and Northern Arizona while the Lady Eagles (1-1, 0-0 Conference USA) comes into town after playing LSU and University of Arkansas Little Rock.
Senior Takira Allen is leading the team in points with 28 after the first two games followed closely by junior Celeste Hudson who has 27. Allen, Hudson and junior Shelby Weber are tied in the rebound department with 10 each.
The Knights defeated UNLV 60-58 with Hudson leading the team in points with 22. In the second game, against Northern Arizona, Allen led the Knights with 18 points.
The Lady Eagles come to Orlando after losing to LSU 35-80 with Shannon Stueber leading the team in points with 11 and then defeated University of Arkansas Little Rock 79-65 with Stueber again leading the team in points with 25.
This will be the fifth time that UCF and Southern Miss have met on the basketball court. Southern Miss leads the series 4-0. The last time that the Golden Knights and the Lady Eagles met was November 27, 2002 with the Lady Eagles winning 73-45. Allen led the Knights with 13 points while grabbing five rebounds.
Tickets for Friday's game are still available. Adults are $5. Youth age 17 and under and seniors age 55 and older pay $3. Children under five and UCF students with a valid UCF student I.D. are admitted free. Tickets for all Golden Knights women's basketball games are available at the door and by calling (407) UCF-GOLD.
