Nov. 17, 2004

ORLANDO, Fla. - Jackie Akers, a senior from Naples, Fla., has signed a National Letter of Intent to continue her basketball career as a Golden Knight. She will be playing at North Fort Myers High for her senior year.

"We are very excited to have Jackie sign with the women's basketball program here at UCF. She is a four player who hits the outside shot and will help us to open the inside," said Head Coach Gail Striegler.

Academically, Akers is in the top of her class making the Principle's List both her sophomore and junior years of school.

Athletically, Akers made First Team All-Area as a sophomore and Second Team All-Area as a freshman at Fort Myers-Bishop Verot. She was unable to complete her junior season due to illness. Also as a freshman, Akers helped Bishop Verot to the state championship finals.

"UCF seemed to be a perfect fit for me. The team and the coaches were so personable on my visit and the campus was gorgeous. I also believe that I will get a great education out of UCF," said Akers.

In addition to school life, Akers also plays AAU basketball for the Florida Shockers coached by Gus Navarro.

"Jackie is very mobile and will fit in with our program," said Striegler.
