WINDERMERE, Fla. - Georgia's Chris Kirk shot a pair of 3-under-par 69s Monday, leading the top-ranked Bulldogs to the 36-hole lead in the first annual Isleworth Collegiate Invitational at Isleworth Country Club. Kirk is alone in fourth place, one shot behind the trio of Roberto Castro from Georgia Tech, Pablo Martin from Oklahoma State and Matt Every from Florida, who are tied at 7-under-par 137.
Georgia Tech trails the Bulldogs heading into Tuesday's final round by only two shots after posting the low round of the day Monday afternoon. Led by Castro's 68, the Yellow Jackets tallied a 5-under-par 283 and are three shots ahead of Oklahoma State. Kentucky and Wake Forest round out the top five.
UCF, the host school along with Wake Forest, is in 13th place in the 16-team field that includes nine of the nation's top 25 teams and every one of the top six. UCF senior Andreas Hoegberg shot a 4-under-par 68 in the afternoon and is tied for ninth at even-par 144. UCF shot rounds of 306 and 305 and is eight shots behind 10th place North Carolina State.
Recently rated the longest and toughest course in the state of Florida, Isleworth proved to be a challenge for the field with the average score just below 76 Monday. However, Every and Matthew Rosenfeld of Texas posted the lowest rounds of the day with identical 5-under-par 67s in the morning, while Hoegberg's 68 in the afternoon round was matched by Castro, Martin and Wake Forest's Kyle Reifers.
The event, closed to the general public, wraps up with 18 holes of play beginning Tuesday morning.
