DeLand - The UCF women's cross country "B" team placed fifth in a field of 14 squads on Friday night at the Stetson Hatter Invitational.
The Golden Knights, which split this weekend to run at the Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival and the Stetson Invitational, collected 139 points to finish fifth. Atlantic Sun Conference rival Florida Atlantic earned top honors with 21 points followed by Jacksonville (71 pts.), Warner Southern (114 pts.) and Florida Tech (123 pts.).
Junior Valerie Tabor led the way for the ladies finished 15 of 125 runners with a time of 20:11 in the 5K. Five seconds behind her, junior Michelle Brouillet placed 19th and another junior Andrea Morrow was 30th at 20:41. Senior Jackie Magee and sophomore Amanda Peters also scored for UCF as they finished 41st and 45th, respectively.
Two members of the UCF men's team ran unattached in the 8K race. Junior Ray Gossage earned the Golden Knights' top place of the day was fifth overall with a time of 27:10, while freshman Paul Nielson was 35th at 29:08.
The bulk of the men's squad and four of the women compete at the Chile Pepper Festival on Saturday morning in Fayetteville, Ark.
