UCF Signs LSU Transfer Amber Long

ORLANDO - Sophomore guard Amber Long has found a new home at UCF as a Golden Knight. Long, who originally hails from Irmo, S.C., transferred from LSU after her freshman season. Coach Gail Striegler and her coaching staff played a key role in Long's decision to attend UCF.

While at LSU, Long saw action in 11 games. She scored her first collegiate points against Rice while recording a career high four points and three steals against Southeastern Louisiana. Against Sam Houston State, Long recorded a career high three rebounds and six assists.

Long graduated in 2003 from Dutch Fork High School. As a five-year starter under Anne Long, Amber left a lasting impression on the program. During her five years, Long scored 1,908 points. Amber also helped her team to three regional titles and two state runner-up finishes. She also helped to lead her team to a No. 35 national ranking in 2002.

As a senior, Long averaged 19.8 points, 6.0 assists, 3.8 rebounds and 3.7 steals. Amber played in the 2003 WBCA All-Star game where she had three assists and six rebounds in 19 minutes of play. During her senior year, Long was named a Street & Smith's honorable mention All-American. Following Amber's 2002-03 season, she was one of the Top 5 female players and was a finalist for 4A Miss Basketball in South Carolina. Long was also named to the addidas All-American team after her senior year. She was also a three-time all-region, all-area and all-state player.

When Amber was not playing basketball in high school, she was running track, playing volleyball and was a two-time state runner-up bodybuilder.

Born Amber Danine Long on May 30, 1985 in Columbia S.C. She is the daughter of Rudy and Dr. Connie Long and has one brother named Carl. Amber is planning on majoring in criminal justice and would like to work with either the FBI or CIA. Outside of school, Long enjoys listening to music, particularly Bob Marley, and talking on the phone.
