Men's Basketball Represented On Tour Through China

July 28, 2004

ORLANDO - UCF men's basketball team members Adam Gill and Will Bakanowsky and Associate Head Coach Tom Schuberth are a part of a Sports Reach team headed to China for an eight-game tour, which started today and runs through Aug. 9.

Schuberth will act as a coach with the nine-member squad, which also includes players from Southeast Missouri and Transylvania University among others. They will be based out of Beijing but play several games throughout the country against professional teams as well as three or four exhibitions against the China Junior National Team. The players will also get the opportunity to act as tourists, taking in the Chinese culture and visiting such sights as the Great Wall and the Forbidden City.

Schuberth, who traveled with Sports Reach to China three summers ago, said that the trip provides the student-athletes with valuable experience both on and off the court. "It's a rewarding experience for the players. They get the chance to learn about another culture and gain confidence in their playing abilities. They come back better people and better players."

According the organization's website, Sports Reach "is a ministry committed to sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ through Sports."
