BOCA RATON - Junior shortstop Stephanie Best of the UCF softball team was named to the 2004 CoSIDA Academic All-District III Team as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America on Thursday.
A liberal studies major from Fort Mill, S.C., Best earned the award for the second consecutive year. Nominees must have completed at least one year at their school, have a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or better and make a significant contribution to their teams.
Seeing action in all 59 games for the Golden Knights, Best led the team in nearly every offensive category and was among the top players in the nation in both batting average and slugging percentage. Earlier this week, she earned 2004 Atlantic Sun Player of the Year and first-team all-conference recognition.
Best and the other district honorees will be among those considered for the Academic All-America Team, which will be released on June 3.
