Fox Cited As A-Sun Pitcher-Of-The-Week

MACON, Ga. – For the third time this season, UCF right-handed pitcher Matt Fox earned Atlantic Sun Baseball Pitcher-of-the-Week honors as named by the league office on Monday afternoon. Fox continued his season long dominance of A-Sun hitters with a two-hit shutout of Georgia State.

Fox, from Coral Gables, Fla., was nearly perfect against Georgia State on Friday night, throwing a nine-inning, two-hit shutout against the Panthers. The junior allowed just two singles and faced 30 batters en route to his sixth complete game of the year and third shutout. Earlier on Friday, Fox was named a semifinalist for the Roger Clemens Award, only to take the mound that night and strikeout 12 Panther batters. Fox finished the game by retiring 17 of the final 18 batters, including four of the last five on strikeouts.

UCF (42-14, 24-6 A-Sun) is the top seed when the 2004 A-Sun Baseball Championship presented by Cingular Wireless gets underway on Wednesday in DeLand, Fla. UCF will take on Campbell in the first game of the day at 11:00 a.m.
