Fox Named Semifinalist For Roger Clemens Award

HOUSTON, Texas – UCF junior right-handed pitcher Matt Fox has been named one of 10 semifinalists for the inaugural Roger Clemens Award. The list was announced on Friday in Houston after the conclusion of the first round of voting by the nation’s Division 1 head baseball coaches and selected national media.

The winner of the first Roger Clemens Award will be announced at the conclusion of The Roger Clemens Award Dinner, which will be held on July 15 at the Hilton Americas Hotel in Houston.

Fox (11-2, 2.02 ERA, 100 Ks) has tossed five complete games and a pair of shutouts for the Knights this season. The single-season leader in wins and strikeouts, he’ll take the mound tonight looking to vs. Georgia State in Atlanta, looking to clinch the Atlantic Sun Conference title.

Fox is also on the watch list for the Golden Spikes Award and was a Midseason All-American according to Baseball America. The junior pitcher was also named the No. 51 prospect for June’s MLB Draft by Baseball America.

Joining Fox on the list include Jered Weaver of Long Beach State. He is joined by Phillip Humber and Wade Townsend of 2003 CWS champ Rice, J.P Howell and Huston Street of 2002 champs Texas, Justin Hoyman of Florida, Nate Moore of Troy State, Mike Pelfrey of Wichita State and Justin Verlander of Old Dominion.
