No. 24 UCF Splits Doubleheader vs. Troy State

ORLANDO - UCF sophomore pitcher Kyle Bono tied a school record with his fifth career complete-game shutout to lead the Golden Knights past Troy State 6-0 Saturday evening at Jay Bergman Field. In game one of the doubleheader, Troy State shutout UCF 5-0 in the first game Saturday.
 
With the split, No. 24 UCF raised its record to 33-10 overall and 18-5 in the A-Sun while Troy State is 29-12 overall and 11-9 in the conference.
 
Bono continued his stellar season with his fifth complete-game shutout of the season, tops in UCF single-season history. Bono also moved into a tie with Brian Ahern with five career complete-game shutouts. 
 
The Lake Mary native has been almost untouchable vs. A-Sun competition, with all five shutouts coming vs. conference foes. Bono totaled 10 strikeouts on the night to raise his record to a perfect 7-0.
 
UCF scored two runs in the second and four in the fourth for all of the run support Bono would need. Clay Timpner finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored and his fourth home run of the season to lead UCF offensively. 
 
Ryan Bono also drove in a pair of runs with a two-run single and Marshall Bernhard delivered two hits for the victors.
 
In game one, Troy State became the first team in 2004 to defeat UCF starter Matt Fox as the Trojans blanked the Golden Knights 5-0. Eric Wikstrom (7-2) pitched five shutout innings and yielded six hits with two strikeouts to earn the win for TSU.
 
The Trojans scored single runs in the third and fifth before scoring three in the seventh to close out the scoring at 5-0. Adam Godwin was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and four stolen bases to lead Troy State.
 
Fox (10-1) lost for the first time since the final game of 2003 after going 6.2 innings. The junior right-handed allowed five runs, three earned, with seven strikeouts and two walks.
 
Ryan Bono was 3-for-3 in game one for the Golden Knights.
