Fox Tosses Two-Hit Shutout Over Belmont

ORLANDO – Matt Fox tossed his second complete-game shutout of the season to lead No. 26 UCF past Belmont 3-0 Friday evening at Jay Bergman Field. Fox was dominant all night long, limiting the Bruins to just two hits and three base runners on the night in a game that lasted just one hour and 57 minutes. With the win, UCF improved to 30-8 overall and 15-4 in the A-Sun while Belmont dropped to 23-12 and 9-7 in the conference.

Fox won his ninth straight start of the season to improve to 10-0, becoming the second pitcher in two years for the Golden Knights to post a 10-0 record. Bo Hall ended the 2002 season with a win over USF in the NCAA regionals to end the season at 10-0.

The shutout was the eighth of the season for UCF, which sets a new school record. The 2004 team was tied with the 1995 and 1977 teams that each posted seven shutouts.

Fox is currently tied for the NCAA lead in wins with Long Beach State’s Jered Weaver. Weaver (10-0) takes the hill later tonight vs. UC Irvine.

UCF scored one run in the first for all of the run support Fox would need. Ryan Bono drove in a run with a RBI-groundout in the first for a 1-0 UCF lead.

The Golden Knights added single runs in the third and fourth to close out the scoring.

Matt Ray and Marshall Bernhard led UCF with two hits each as the Golden Knights outhit Belmont 8-2. UCF is now 26-2 on the season when they outhit the opposition.

Clay Timpner finished 1-for-4 with a run scored and two stolen bases. The two steals moved Timpner into seventh on the UCF single-season record books.

UCF sends Kyle Bono to the mound in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. and both games will be broadcast live on the UCF ISP Sports Network (740-AM The Team).
