No. 2 LSU Uses The Long Ball In 17-4 Win

ORLANDO – No. 2 LSU hit five home runs and totaled 19 hits en route to a 17-4 victory over UCF in baseball action Saturday afternoon at Jay Bergman Field. The fifth largest crowd in school history, 1,642 fans, witnessed the offensive explosion by the Tigers.

The strong game by the LSU offense was also countered by a strong pitching performance by starting pitcher Lane Mestepey. Mestepey (1-0), a junior southpaw who has missed the last 20 months due to shoulder surgery, tossed five innings allowing just five hits and one earned run with two strikeouts.

Seven LSU batters totaled multi-hit games including a three-hit performance by Ryan Patterson. The left fielder was 3-for-6 with three RBI, including a three-run home run.

UCF starter Jaime Douglas (0-1) lasted 3.1 innings, the longest outing of his career. The Ohio native yielded two earned runs on three hits with three walks and two strikeouts.

Senior David Mann paced the UCF offense with a 2-for-3 day at the plate. Mann drove in two runs and scored two runs.

The Golden Knights and Tigers close out the three-game series Sunday at 1 p.m. UCF sophomore pitcher Kyle Bono will make his first career start for the Golden Knights.
