#15 Florida Atlantic Sweeps Doubleheader For Series Win Over Baseball

ORLANDO – No. 15 Florida Atlantic (34-10, 18-6 A-Sun) limited UCF (25-17, 9-9 A-Sun) to just one run in two games Saturday to sweep a doubleheader from the Golden Knights, winning the series two games to one. The Blue Wave won game one Saturday 9-0 behind a one-hitter thrown by Rusty Beam while FAU earned the twinbill sweep with a 6-1 win in the second game.

In the first game, Beam was in control from the beginning as he faced just two batters over the minimum. The only hit that Beam yielded was an infield single by Nathan Kragt in the fourth inning.

Beam (9-1) fanned five and walked just one in the complete game win.

Derek Hutton, Matt Pali and Mike Cox each drove in two runs for the victors.

UCF starting pitcher Mark Michael (6-3) pitched just 4.0 innings, allowing five runs, three earned, on eight hits with a strikeout. The outing also snapped a streak of four consecutive complete games thrown by the senior right-hander this season.

In game two, FAU scored five runs on five hits and two UCF errors in the first inning to cruise to a 6-1 win. Rusty Brown was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI while Hutton added another two hits in the second game.

FAU reliever Chris Saxton pitched 2.0 innings for the win. The right-hander yielded one run on two hits to improve to 3-2.

UCF starter Lincoln Mincks (5-3) pitched just 0.2 innings, allowing five runs, three earned, on five hits to earn the loss.

The Golden Knights return to the diamond Tuesday, April 22 at home vs. Bethune-Cookman. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
