Former UCF Standout Mike Maroth Named Opening Day Starter

ORLANDO – Former UCF standout pitcher Mike Maroth will join the likes of Greg Maddox, Roger Clemens and Randy Johnson this season as the former Golden Knight has been named the Opening Day starter for the Detroit Tigers. Like the other elite pitchers mentioned, Maroth has the honor to represent his team on opening day on the mound.

Maroth is also the first UCF player to be named an Opening Day starter on the hill in the Majors. The Orlando native and former Boone High School standout along with the rest of his Tiger teammates open the 2003 Major League Baseball season Monday, March 31 at 1:05 p.m. vs. the Minnesota Twins at Comerica Park in Detroit.
