Baseball Blanks Pace For Second Straight Shutout Win

ORLANDO – UCF starting pitcher Von David Stertzbach threw 5.0 innings without allowing a hit to lead UCF past Pace 7-0 Monday evening at Jay Bergman Field. Stertzbach improved to 1-1 on the year as he struck out five Pace batters in the win. The victory also marked the first time that UCF won back-to-back games via a shutout since the 1997 season.

UCF is now 11-5 on the year while Pace dropped to 0-3.

The Golden Knights scored a single run in the second, third and fourth inning to give Stertzbach a 3-0 advantage. UCF put the game away in the fifth with three runs, including RBI singles by Clay Timpner and Ryan Bear.

UCF scored another run in the sixth to close out the scoring at 7-0.

Timpner had an excellent night, finishing 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI and a career-high four stolen bases. UCF stole a season-high seven bases on the night.

UCF also got two strong relief appearances by freshman Rob Braleski and junior Andrew Daly. Braleski fanned a career-high six in 3.0 innings of work while Daly struck out the side in a 1-2-3 ninth inning.

The Golden Knights continue their homestand Tuesday night vs. Toledo. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
