DAYTONA BEACH – UCF starting pitcher Lincoln Mincks tossed six innings of two-hit baseball with 10 strikeouts to lead the Golden Knights to a 1-0 victory over Bethune-Cookman at Jackie Robinson Ballpark in Daytona Beach Tuesday night. The 26th-ranked Golden Knights (1-0) earned their first victory of the season while the Wildcats dropped to 0-6 on the year.
Mincks was dominant on the mound for UCF as he struck out a career-best 10 batters and held the Wildcats to two hits in six innings of work. Mincks retired 18 of the 21 batters he faced.
In two games this season, UCF’s starting pitchers have combined for 20 strikeouts in 11.0 innings of work.
Four UCF pitchers combined to limit B-CC to just three hits while totaling 13 strikeouts. Taylor Cobb pitched a perfect two innings with two strikeouts.
In the ninth, the Wildcats put runners on first and second base before Matt Fox entered the game to secure the final out and his first career save.
The Golden Knights manufactured their only run of the game in the top of the sixth inning. David Mann walked, advanced to second on a passed ball and to third on a failed pickoff attempt by Bethune-Cookman starting pitcher John Gragg. With Mann on third, Nathan Kragt drove him in with a sacrifice fly to center to give UCF a 1-0 advantage.
UCF returns to the diamond this weekend for a three-game series vs. Western Kentucky at Jay Bergman Field. The series begins Friday, Feb. 14 at 6 p.m.
