ORLANDO -- Bo Hall carried UCF to a 6-2 victory over South Florida Tuesday evening at Jay Bergman Field. Hall’s two run complete game avoided the season sweep by the Bulls and puts the Knights ten games above .500 at 27-17. He threw 133 pitches in his stellar nine innings of work, surrendering seven hits, walking one and fanning nine.
Hall’s loan walk came in the first inning, where South Florida added a stolen base and a two out single by Jeff Baisley to give the Bulls an early 1-0 lead. Baisley eneded the evening with three hits, an RBI and a run scored. UCF was sat down one two three in the first and Hall returned the favor in the Bulls half of the second.
The Knights had an excellent opportunity in the second inning, putting men on second and third with two outs, but were unable to capitalize as Ryan Gloger got the number eight hitter on strikes.
South Florida threatened to break the scoring open in third inning, putting the first two men on thanks to an error and a single. UCF stifled the Bulls charge with a strike-‘em-out, throw-‘em-out for the first two outs. Hall induced the next man up to ground out to second, stranding one. UCF jumped ahead in their half of the inning, scoring two runs on two hits, while taking advantage of a throwing error by the pitcher on a bunt single.
The Golden Knights added two more runs in the fourth to take a 4-1 lead on Gloger and USF, while the Bulls mounted another attack with a pair of two out singles in the next half inning. Hall got the final out on a swinging strike, stranding men on the corners and preserving the three run advantage.
Gloger was replaced in the fifth by Mike Choquette, who proceeded to shut UCF down until the eighth inning when the Knights added two insurance runs. South Florida added their second run in the sixth, with a leadoff tripled past a diving Jason Graham in right field and a singled. That was the last time a USF player reached base as Hall slammed the door shut, retiring the final twelve batters he faced.
Four UCF batters claimed two hits on the night and Graham stole home on a double steal that had Jeremy Frost swipe second. Frost added a double as one of his hits going 2-for-3.
UCF will be in action again on Saturday, April 27 when it welcomes Stetson to Jay Bergman Field for a 6:00 p.m. start. Fans will be able to hear the game live on 740 The Team.
