Women's Tennis Unveils 2023 Fall Schedule

by Logan Hasselbach

ORLANDO - The UCF women’s tennis team has unveiled its inaugural fall schedule as a member of the Big 12, including a slate of collegiate tournaments and professional events. Fall play will run from Sept. 22 - Nov. 17 and will include five collegiate tournaments and 12 International Tennis Federation and Women's Tennis Association events.

The Knights begin the fall season in Cary, North Carolina, taking part in the College Ranked Spotlight hosted by NC State. This will be the Knights third consecutive trip to the tournament, which will run from Sept. 22-24. Shortly after, the Black and Gold travel south to Tampa to compete in the Bedford Cup, hosted by South Florida, from Sept. 29 - Oct. 1. The last time UCF competed in the Bedford Cup, in the 2021 fall season, the team recorded 14 total victories and had players advance as far as the East Semifinals in both singles and doubles.

UCF will make another trip to Cary from Sept. 30 - Oct. 6, this time to participate in the ITA All-American Championships. Depending on individual performances at the All-Americans, any Knight who qualifies for the ITA National Fall Championships will head to San Diego, California in early November.

The Black and Gold will then head to Atlanta to compete in the ITA Regional Championship, hosted by Georgia Tech, from Oct. 12-15. Recent UCF graduate Marie Mattel made a run to the quarterfinals of the main draw in last year’s tournament.

Wrapping up the collegiate slate, UCF will get its first taste of Big 12 action at the Big 12 Individual Championships at the Hurd Tennis Center in Waco, Texas.

Twelve ITF and WTA tournaments sit on the Knights’ schedule and include potential stops in South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, Texas, Michigan, Oklahoma and Illinois. Nearly every member of the Black and Gold took part in an ITF event last season, including sophomore Stefani Webb, who brought home a doubles title at the W15 Caloundra event over the summer.
