Isaiah Adams Named Florida Mr. Basketball

ORLANDO – For the first time, Florida's Mr. Basketball will play at UCF. Isaiah Adams, named Florida Class 4A Player of the Year last week, was announced as the Florida Dairy Farmers Mr. Basketball, the award given annually to the best high school basketball player in the state.

Adams, a 6-foot-5 wing from Jacksonville, earned the honor over Ga'Khari LaCount, Dionte Blanch, Emanuel Sharp, Yussif Basa-Ama, Ven Allen Lubin and Marcus Niblack, all players of the year in their respective class.

In his final season of high school basketball, Adams averaged a double-double with 23.7 points and 11.1 rebounds per game at Paxon. He added 2.9 blocks and 2.2 assists per game for the Golden Eagles to earn the accolades.

Adams, the top vote-getter for the award on 10 out of 19 ballots, led Paxon to back-to-back state semifinal appearances.

Duke's Vernon Carey Jr. won the Florida Mr. Basketball Award each of the last two seasons. UCF's BJ Taylor was runner-up for the award in 2014.

He and Jamille Reynolds out of St. Petersburg's Lakewood signed with the Knights in November and are scheduled to suit up with UCF for the 2020-21 season.
