UCF Adds 17 Signees To Football Roster On National Signing Day The Knights secure signatures of athletes from seven different states, bring 2008 class total to 20

Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - UCF head coach George O'Leary announced the signing of 17 student-athletes to National Letters of Intent to play football for the Knights on Wednesday. The class features a group of athletes that come from seven different states as Florida has the most representation with seven new signees. With three members of the class of 2008 already enrolled in classes, Wednesday's additional players bring O'Leary's fifth class as the UCF head coach to 20.

Breaking the class down by position, the Knights' offense gained one quarterback, four running backs, two tight end/h-backs and four linemen. Defensively, UCF received signatures from a trio of defensive linemen and two linebackers. The Knights also listed Marquee Williams as an athlete. Williams played both sides of the ball during his prep career at Vanguard (Ocala, Fla.) High School.

"I am very happy with the class that we signed," O'Leary said. "This group will help us continue to improve both athletically and academically as a program. We were able to address several of our needs and that will only help us in future years."

Five members of the class are Georgia natives, while three hail from New York. Ohio and Texas each had one player sign from those respective states. The trio of New Yorkers in the signing class joins a list of seven previous Knights from the Empire State that have earned letters in the 29-year history of UCF football.

The three players on campus, who will all participate in 2008 spring practices, includes the lone junior-college transfer in the class, Jarvis Geathers. A defensive end prospect originally from Andrews, S.C., Geathers is joined by Chad Keys of Covington, La., and Josh Linam of Tavares, Fla., who were both original members of the 2007 class, but were grayshirted last fall and joined the program in January.

The Knights are coming off a 2007 season that saw O'Leary lead the team to 10 wins and the program's first conference championship. UCF claimed the Conference USA title with a 44-25 victory over Tulsa on Dec. 1
