Track and Field Opens Competition at Florida Relays

GAINESVILLE, Florida - The UCF Track and Field team commenced action at the 2025 Florida Relays on Friday, competing in one of the nation’s premier meets. Hosted at the Percy Beard Track, the Knights qualified multiple into tomorrow’s finals to make for an enticing finale.

In the first event of the afternoon, a new-look 4x100m squad placed seventh to qualify for tomorrow’s finals. Adaobi Tabugbo, Jazmen Newberry and Aaliyah Gipson joined familiar anchor I’Asia Wilson as the group clocked a debut at 44.39 in the third heat.

Junior Penelopa Sosa led the charge in the first distance event of the weekend, as the Miami native secured a podium finish in third with her personal best of 4:34.99. Fellow third-years Abby Clements and Kendall Hughes rounded out the field in 16th and 18th.

A pair of track events saw Coco Branch run a 24.61 in the 200m before sophomore Y’Vette Harris ran sub-one minute for the first time in her collegiate career in the 400m hurdles. Competing in heat five, Harris ran a 59.78 to place 21st, with the time placing her just outside the top-10 in program history.

In her first of two jumping events of the day, Natalia Madison placed 11th in the high jump as she passed the 1.67m mark. Moments later, the senior landed amongst the top 10 in the long jump with her 5.70m attempt.

 

The Knights will be back on the track tomorrow afternoon beginning with the 100m hurdles prelims at noon.
