ORLANDO- The UCF men’s basketball team has signed Mount St. Mary’s transfer Carmelo Pacheco to the 2025-26 roster, as announced by head coach Johnny Dawkins on Monday.
“Carmelo is a great three-and-D guy; he is a capable three-point shooter and competes hard on the defensive end. He’s a great teammate, and we’re glad to have him on our team for the upcoming year.”
Johnny DawkinsUCF Men's Basketball Head CoachThe six-foot-five guard spent his first collegiate season at University of Virginia’s College at Wise where he averaged 12.3 points per game while shooting 47.3% from the field and 43.7% from long range. Hailing from Harrisonburg, Va., he delivered a standout offensive season, scoring 20 or more points on five occasions, including a career-high 28-point effort against Coker on Jan. 1, 2024, that he later matched on Feb. 10, 2024, in the Cavaliers' faceoff with Limestone.
Fourth in the nation in three-point percentage during the 2024-25 campaign, Pacheco tallied an impressive 284 points by knocking down 77-of-166 from behind the arc. The rising junior was just as solid from behind the charity stripe, recording an 81.6% clip.
Starting in all 30 games he appeared in, the Mount St. Mary’s guard suffered a broken finger injury in the squad’s regular-season finale against Marist on March 8, 2025. Nonetheless, Pacheco was a key factor in the Mount’s successful season, recording 15 double-digit scoring games, including a season-high 18-point performance against Howard.
A strong defensive showing from the guard, who recorded 18 steals and 50 rebounds on the campaign, was an equal factor in stamping the Mountaineers’ ticket to Dayton, Ohio, to make their seventh March Madness appearance.
