Multis Squad Shines for No. 9 Track and Field to Open Hurricane Alumni Invitational

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – In their first heptathlon of the outdoor season, a Knights trio, led by senior Natalia Madison, showed out during day one of the Hurricane Alumni Invitational. Competing at Cobb Stadium, the squad secured four personal bests en route to a promising opening to the weekend.

Ashlyn Green and Leiya Green started the day in Coral Gables, as the tandem secured strong marks in the hammer throw and the long jump. The former, competing in her third meet of the season, placed 10th with a 50.33m performance. In the long jump, Leiya Green slotted in at 26th following her 5.19m mark.

After strong outings throughout the indoor season, the Knights’ trio of Holly Cassels, Y’Vette Harris and Natalia Madison set out on their first heptathlon of the season.

Harris, who has excelled in the hurdles during the early stages of her collegiate career, placed third in the event, clocking a 13.73 to garner 1,017 points. Madison trailed in eighth with a 14.19, followed by Holly Cassels in 15th with her 14.59 performance, who secured a personal best.

In the first two field events of the meet, the trio had multiple top-10 performances. In one of her strongest competitions, Madison placed fourth in the high jump with a 1.67m mark, as Cassels sat just behind her in fifth with a 1.64m jump of her own.

Madison would yet again feature in the top 10 in the shot put as she came in seventh with an 11.82m throw. Harris smattered her personal best with an 11.05m mark as she continued her vibrant outing down south.

Friday’s action concluded in style as Madison and Harris went one-two to lead the field in the 200m. The tandem secured personal bests as Madison’s first-place time of 24.52 saw her just ahead of Harris who clocked a 24.55 in second.

As it stands, Madison sits in third with 3350 points, followed by the freshman in eighth with 3131 and Holly Cassels in 14th with 3056. The trio will be back in action tomorrow for their final three events, starting with the long jump at 12:30 p.m.
