Women's Golf Selected to Winston-Salem Regional

by Jenna VanHoose

ORLANDO – The UCF women’s golf team was selected to compete as the No. 5 seed in the Winston-Salem Regional, the NCAA announced Wednesday in conjunction with the Golf Channel.

The three-day event begins Monday, May 6 at Bermuda Run Country Club hosted by Wake Forest in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. A total of 72 teams and 36 individual participants have been selected for regional competition as the five other host schools include – Auburn, Texas A&M, Washington, Michigan State and UNLV.

After 54 holes, the top-5 teams and low individual (not on an advancing team) advance to the NCAA Championships at Omni La Costa Resort in Carlsbad, Calif. From May 17-22.

This will be UCF’s 18th regional appearance and the 9th of the last 13 seasons. Since head coach Emily Marron took over the program ahead of the 2012-13 season, the Knights have either qualified as a team or sent an individual to every NCAA regional. Wednesday’s selection marks the fifth consecutive time the Knights have made an NCAA regional as a team (excluding the COVID-shortened 2019-20 season).

This season, the Knights have recorded seven top-5 finishes to mark the most since the 2013-14 season which included two team titles (Evie Odom Invitational and Mercedes-Benz Intercollegiate) and 94 wins (4th most in the Top 25).

Last season, Marron’s squad made it to the NCAA regional championship in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, where the Knights finished in 7th place with a score of 891 (+12).
