ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - UCF football added another preseason honor to its collection Monday when senior Jonathan Davis was named to the College Football Performance Awards Linebacker Trophy Watch List. Only 41 student-athletes from around the country received a spot on the list.
A native of Lawrenceville, Ga., Davis will be in his second full season on defense for the Knights in 2012. He opened his career in 2009 as a true freshman running back, rushing for 310 yards and four touchdowns. During UCF's run toward the Conference USA championship and AutoZone Liberty Bowl title in 2010, Davis started three games and amassed 234 yards on the ground.
Davis eventually switched to outside linebacker for 2011, and during the preseason, battled his way into the two-deep. He would start eight games and rack up 44 tackles with a team-high 10.5 tackles for loss. Davis was selected to the Phil Steele Midseason All-C-USA Third Team and the Phil Steele Postseason All-C-USA Third Team.
Starting the week of July 9, watch lists from the National College Football Awards Association will begin to be announced.
