UCF Football Summer Player Update - Brian Watters

May 22, 2009

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - A mainstay on offense for the UCF football team since 2007 has been wide receiver Brian Watters. Now entering his junior season, Watters looks to take his game to another level and get the Knights' aerial attack back on track in 2009.

The Rome, Ga., native led all UCF receivers last season, hauling in 42 passes for 594 yards and three touchdowns. The summer session for Watters gives him time to improve on the physical aspects of the game, as well as stepping into more of a leadership role as an upperclassman.

On what its like being counted on as one of the top three receivers

"You do all of this hard work and it all pays off when you are one of the guys who they are looking for to make plays. It feels real good that my team is looking for me to help lead the team."

On his leadership style

"I am not really too much of a vocal guy. I lead by action, or at least try to. I look at the young guys and I see where I used to be so I encourage them to try and take the paths that got me where I am today. I like the leadership role."

On the break between spring and summer sessions

"I went back home to see my mom, dad and family. I went to Jamaica for a week. I did a little bit of relaxing out there on the beach to get my mind right for the summer that we have coming up."

On what games this season he is looking forward to the most

"Every game is exciting because we get to go out, compete and play football. I am really looking forward to playing the "big name" schools in Miami and Texas the most. We get to go out there and really show what we are made of and compete and show people who we are."

On who the best player is when it comes to video games

"I would probably say it's between Derrick Hallman, Kamar Aiken and myself. We all go at it all the time playing the basketball and football games on Xbox. Derrick Hallman is pretty sweet on the sticks."
