Football Spring Practice Day Nine

April 1, 2009

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF football team has passed the half-way point as it hit the field for the ninth time this spring Wednesday morning. The prospect of storms sent the Knights indoors.

In the Nicholson Fieldhouse, the team spent a portion of practice working on special teams including punt and kickoff returns. The offense continued installation and went toe to toe with the defense during several scrimmage periods. The team worked out in shells this morning.

The Knights return to the practice field adjacent to Bright House Networks Stadium Friday morning at 9 a.m. All spring practices are open to the public.

UCF will hold its conclusion to spring practice with its annual Spring Game on Saturday, April 11 at Bright House Networks Stadium. The scrimmage begins at 2 p.m. and general admission tickets can be purchased in advance by contacting the UCF Ticket Office at (407) 823-1000, online at UCFAthletics.com, or in-person at Bright House Networks Stadium.

Following Wednesday's practice, UCFAthletics.com caught up with rising-sophomore running back Brynn Harvey. The Largo, Fla. native is participating in his first spring season with the Knights after accumulating a team-best 519 yards on the ground last year, and earning Conference USA All-Freshman team honors.

On what has improved in his game

"The game has slowed down a lot for me. I have been making nice cuts and reading the linemen's blocks. There has been a lot of progress from last year to this year so far."

On what his goals are this season

"To help the team get back to the Conference USA Championship and a bowl game. Also, for us to return to running back `U' like it was two years ago."

On the many running backs on the roster

"I think every running back has something unique to bring to the table, if we can utilize that on the field that would be great. We can hit them with speed, power and size."

On coming into the spring at the top of the depth chart

"I just try to keep my head focused. I try not to look behind me and just keep my head forward. I just do what I can do and not worry about anything else."

On the new offense

"In the offense we have a lot of new stuff, we have a lot of plays to work on for next year. We aren't even halfway through installing the plays. It is a real good offense and coach Taaffe is doing a real good job."
