Dec. 7, 2007

Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - A pair of UCF rookies were named to the honorable mention Sporting News Freshman All-America team on Friday, officials from the publication announced. Redshirt freshman Bruce Miller and true freshman Blake Clingan were each selected for their play during the 2007 season that saw the Knights capture the Conference USA Championship.

Miller (Canton, Ga./Woodstock) ranked second on the team in sacks, registering seven from his defensive end position. The first-year player also had 35 total tackles, including a career-high nine in the regular-season victory over Tulsa. Miller compiled three of his seven sacks against Tulsa with two coming on Oct. 20 and his third coming in the C-USA Championship Game on Dec. 1.

Clingan (Coral Springs, Fla./Coral Springs) started at punter in 12 of the Knights' 13 contests this season, averaging 40.5 yards per punt on his 53 attempts. He downed 12 punts inside the 20-yard line and added 12 punts of 50 yards or longer.

The duo's freshman All-America honors are the first for the Knights since Joe Burnett and Jason Venson earned similar recognition following the 2005 season.

The Knights, who reached 10 wins in a season for the just the second time in program history with their victory over Tulsa in the Bright House Networks C-USA Championship Game, will finish the campaign on Dec. 29 in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl vs. Mississippi State. Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m. ET and the game will be televised nationally on ESPN.
