Holler to Play in Tropical Bowl Saturday in Daytona

by Sam Weisberg

UCF tight end Alec Holler will be playing in the 2024 Trillion Tropical Bowl held on Saturday, Jan. 20, at noon at the Daytona Municipal Stadium. The Tropical Bowl is an annual FBS DI All-Star Game that showcases the top college football seniors to NFL scouts and General Managers.

Holler, one of six team captains in 2023, finished his collegiate career by starting 12 games during UCF’s inaugural season in the Big 12 Conference, recording 24 receptions for 244 yards and two touchdowns. A walk-on in 2018, Holler has been a constant for the Knights, appearing in every game since 2020.

As a redshirt senior in 2022, Holler recorded the most yards of his career with 276. He also had a single game career high in receiving yards with 115 at Florida Atlantic. Holler also had a pair of catches that clinched two victories for the Knights. In a matchup at Memphis, Holler made a 10-yard catch and summersaulted over a defender in the final minutes, which resulted in a first down to clinch the win. In the regular-season finale, Holler caught a one-handed touchdown with 20 seconds remaining to defeat South Florida. This victory lifted the Knights to their final AAC Championship appearance before joining the Big 12.

Holler was also UCF’s 2023 nominee for the Burlsworth Trophy, which is awarded to a player that starts his collegiate career as a walk-on. He earned 2018, 2019, 2021, and 2022 AAC All-Academic Team Honors.

Last season, defensive back Koby Perry represented UCF on the National Team. Former Knight Errol Clarke won the National Team Defensive MVP award for the 2017 Tropical Bowl, where he recorded three tackles, one tackle for loss, a sack, and an interception. Other notable Knights to compete in the Tropical Bowl include D. J. Killings (2017) and Jordan Franks (2018), who each won a Super Bowl.
