UCF Women’s Soccer Earns No. 6 Seed in Big 12 Championship

by Logan Hasselbach

ORLANDO – In its inaugural season in the Big 12 Conference, the UCF women’s soccer team (9-6-1) has secured the No. 6 seed in the 2023 Sprouts Farmers Market Big 12 Soccer Championship. Earning a first-round bye as the sixth seed in the tournament, the Knights will play No. 3 seed TCU on Monday, Oct. 30. The quarterfinal matchup will mark UCF’s first trip to Texas this season, with first kick at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex in Round Rock, Texas, scheduled for 9 p.m. E.T.

The Knights completed the regular season with a tough-fought loss to No. 7 BYU on Monday night, 3-2, bringing their conference record to 5-4-1 to collect 16 points. Their lone draw in conference play came on Oct. 12 against top-seeded Texas Tech with a 1-1 result.

This year’s tournament features a new layout, with 10 teams advancing to the Championship instead of the eight in years past. Three of the four new additions to the Big 12 will be competing in the tournament. No. 2 BYU finished the season with 24 points, only two points behind regular-season champions Texas Tech and Cincinnati earned the ninth seed with seven conference points.
