UCF Concludes Nationals, Begin FSU Invite

National Fall Championships Tournament Central Seminole All-Conference Central Tournament Central

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. (UCFKnights.com) – The Knights concluded their time at the ITA National Fall Championships on Friday while beginning their time at the Seminole All-Conference Showdown.

DAY TWO – Thursday
After winning their initial matchup to begin the tournament, No. 31 Rebeka Stolmar and Marie Mattel continued their hot streak by winning Thursday. They improved to 13-1 on the fall by toppling UCLA's Abigail Forbes and Annette Goulak 6-0, 6-1.

No. 7 Ksenia Kuznetsova and Valeriya Zeleva's tournament came to an end as South Carolina's Silvia Chinellato and Emma Shelton advanced on a walkover.

A Knight benefited from a walkover on Thursday, as Mattel advanced in the singles consolation bracket via a walkover. However, No. 29 Zeleva's singles run in the consolation bracket was ended via a walkover.

In singles play, No. 98 Stolmar fell to the No. 11 seeded Kelly Chen out of Duke by a count of 6-2, 6-0, bringing an end to her tournament. Chen currently sits at No. 5 in the singles rankings.

DAY THREE – Friday
Stolmar and Mattel's winning streak came to an end against the tournament's top seed. North Carolina State's Anna Rogers and Alana Smith who are the nation's top doubles tandem narrowly defeated UCF's pair by a score of 6-4, 6-4.

Mattel's singles run would come to an end as she was edged by Yale's Samantha Martinelli by a count of 6-7(7), 6-4, 6-1 in the consolation bracket.

Friday doubled as the start of the Seminole All-Conference Showdown as Domenika Turkovic and Valentina Martin would participate in both the singles and doubles draws.
Turkovic and Martin began their day with a win in doubles over Middle Tennessee's Barnard/Burrows by a count of 6-3. A couple of hours later, the Knight duo hit the courts again but were defeated by ETSU's Amaro/Morales 6-3. Turkovic and Martin will pair up again on Saturday as they face Troy's Ju Hsieh/Svitlica.

In singles play, Turkovic was edged by Arkansas' Kelly Keller by a tally of 6-3, 7-6(5). Martin was also bested in her singles match on Friday afternoon as Iowa State's Ting-Pei Chang was victorious with a score of 6-3, 7-5. Turkovic will face Arkansas' Myrna Olaya around 11:30 a.m. on Saturday; Martin's match against UNF's Sean Lodzki will follow the completion of Turkovic's match.
