- UCF WBB's Recruiting Class
ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - The UCF women's basketball team added a 5-foot-5 guard to its recruiting class during the late signing period on Wednesday. Canadian Ashley Polacek, who plays for the SPIRE Academy, a prep school in Geneva, Ohio, rounds out the class of five set to join the Knights this fall.
"We are very excited to welcome Ashley Polacek to our UCF family," head coach Joi Williams said. "She is a talented point guard who will help to fill an immediate void for us. Ashley is a high-energy playmaker with excellent ball handling skills and vision. Her ability to push the tempo makes her a perfect fit for the style of basketball we will play."
Polacek was part of the U17 Team Ontario team that took gold at the 2012 National Championships. She won the OFSAA AAA Championship with Louis-Riel Rebelles in 2010.
"I couldn't be more proud of Ashley for committing to the University of Central Florida. She is without a doubt one of the hardest workers that I have coached at SPIRE Academy," SPIRE head coach Jacquie Fernandes said. "Ashley is eager to learn from Coach Williams and her staff, in addition to receiving an outstanding education. I'm looking forward to following her career as a UCF Knight and wish her nothing but the best of luck."
Polacek will suit up alongside Kayla Thigpen; Kayla Thomas (Master Charter (Pa.)); Tolulope Omokore; and Jamesha Paul as UCF's newest Knights. Three of those signees are 2015 state champions.
Thigpen became a two-time Sun Sentinel Player of the Year after helping Palm Beach Lakes to its first state title in program history in March. Omokore helped Eleanor Roosevelt (Va.) clinch back-to-back state championships while Paul led Dillard High School (Fort Lauderdale) to its ninth state championship this season.
Williams is set to serve her ninth season as head coach of the Knights in 2015-16. UCF returns all-conference selection Zykira Lewis, who was one of the nation's top 3-point shooters in 2014-15.
